The short version
- Sign in with your UC San Diego email and the six-digit code we send.
- Membership opens matching and member postings: join an affiliated org, or redeem a code from RAIN.
- Block or report anyone from their profile or your conversation. The RAIN board reviews every report.
- Export or delete everything anytime from Settings, Account.
Signing in
Enter your UC San Diego email and we'll send a six-digit code that works for fifteen minutes. No password needed. If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, then ask for a new code.
Investors, founders, industry people, and alumni without a UC San Diego address choose Join as a partner on the sign-in screen and use any email. The RAIN board confirms each partner account, usually within a day, and your profile stays private until then. Have an invitation or access code from RAIN? Enter the code on the sign-in screen with your email.
Becoming a member
Anyone signed in can find and message people, read and answer what's posted to everyone, and come to events. Matching, member postings, outside roles, and Ask Raindrop open once you're a member.
- Join an affiliated org. Find your student org or lab and ask to join. An officer confirms you, or your name is already on their roster.
- Redeem a code. Codes go out at RAIN events and through org officers.
- Faculty, staff, alumni, and partners are confirmed by the RAIN board, usually within a day.
Blocking and reporting
You can block anyone from their profile or from your conversation. They stop seeing your profile anywhere on Raindrop, neither of you can write to the other, and they are not told. Only you can lift a block, from their profile or from Settings, Privacy.
Report a profile, a posting, a message, an org page, or an event from its menu. Reports go to the RAIN board, who review every one and remove content or accounts that break the terms. If you are in danger, call 911 or UC San Diego Police at (858) 534-4357.
Notifications and email
Raindrop tells you when someone messages you, applies to your posting, moves your application, introduces you, or matches what you're looking for. On iPhone, turn notifications on or off in the app's Settings or in the iPhone's Settings, Notifications, Raindrop. Email summaries have their own switches in Settings, Privacy, and every email has a link to stop that kind of mail.
Your data and your account
- Export. Settings, Account, Export my data gives you everything Raindrop holds about you as one file.
- Delete. Settings, Account, Delete my account removes your account, your profile, your postings, your messages, and your files for good.
- Visibility. Choose who sees your profile in Settings, Privacy: every member, only people you're connected with, or no one.
The iPhone app
Raindrop for iPhone needs iOS 26 or later. It uses the same account as the web, so everything you do in one shows up in the other. If the app misbehaves, write to rain@ucsd.edu with what you tapped, what happened, your iPhone model, and the app version from Settings, About.
